A hunting magazine certainly isn’t a necessity for today’s hunter especially with the Internet where information on almost anything can be found. But hunting magazines offer just one more way for you to enjoy your support, read about other experiences and learn tips and tricks. You can find a hunting magazine just for white-tailed deer, one just for ducks and geese and other waterfowl, one for quail, grouse and partridge and hunting magazines that cover just about everything you can think of.

Some magazines are just focused on outdoor hunting and may contain information and stories about all different types of the sport. Know what you’re getting before you pay for it so you’re not disappointed. If you like to fish also you may invest in a hunting magazine that simply covers hunting and fishing and all of its different manifestations.

There are a number of magazines dedicated to deer hunting. Most of these really only focus on deer with a very occasional article about some other similar hunting like elk or moose. The people who write for these magazines are typically deer hunters who also work as journalists or simply have a way with words. And some of the stories that they publish aren’t by people with much writing skill at all but they are interesting because of the stories themselves.

These deer hunting magazines have tips and tricks, and sections that are designed to help you become a better hunter. They have columns that focus on a different aspect of hunting each month. One month might talk about tree stand safety while another month might focus on the importance of masking your scent. And of course they have feature articles that give an overview of the sport and focus on a few key points. Some deer hunting magazines are very specialized like a magazine specifically for whitetail deer.

One of the most popular outdoor magazines in history, Field & Stream, is example of a magazine that covers all different types of hunting as well as fishing. Someone who only deer hunts may be disappointed at the broad coverage in a magazine like this unless they really enjoy reading about other types of outdoor activities too. But it’s ideal for the outdoor sportsman who appreciates a variety of different experiences. Someone who enjoys fishing for a variety of different species as well as someone who hunts throughout several seasons of the year will really enjoy this type of magazine.
Buy: Deer & Deer Hunting (1-year)
A hunting magazine that focuses on just one type of game typically offers more in-depth information than a magazine that covers several different types of game and/or fishing. You’re more likely to find specific tips for scouting out a white-tailed deer in a magazine just dedicated to deer hunting than you will in a broad-based magazine. So if you’re looking for specific information, you may want to subscribe to a very specialized magazine. Choose a hunting magazine that focuses on your sport for information but don’t discount those broad-based magazines for entertainment, too.

Buck - This is the name for a male deer. The way that you can tell a male apart from female deer is by the antlers that are atop its head for a period of seven months. Other than this, male and female deer are quite similar in appearance, especially during the remaining five months out of the year when the male is not actively growing his antlers.
Buck Rub - This is the action of a male deer lowering his head so that he can scrape his antlers along a tree. There are two reasons why he may do this, to polish and clear away any velvet, and to prepare for competition during the breeding season.
Buffalo Chips - This is a more politically correct way to refer to droppings from a bison.
Bugle – This is a name for the call that elks make during the period of rut so that they can interest females.
Bull - This is the name that is used to describe male elk.
Bulldog – This is a type of mark that is thrown while a hunting dog is returning from a retrieve. This is also referred to as a diversion. The dog cannot switch birds during this process, which means that he must not drop his first bird that he picked up when becoming distracted by the diversion bird.
Bumper – This is an item that is made out of canvas or plastic and that is typically between 2 inches and 3 inches in diameter. Its purpose is to train a hunting dog in place of a real bird. Bumpers are available to hunters in a wide variety of different types of colors. You can find orange, white, black and half black and white bumpers for example. The color that you choose should be based on the current weather as well as what color is going to be most visible for your hunting dog on that particular day. The orange style of bumpers is typically used for the purpose of blinds. While birds tend to be preferable both for dogs and for humans, the supply can be really limited, and so if you are looking for a viable training alternative, bumpers are a good way to go.
Burn - This is terminology that is used in order to describe correction via e-collar that is continuous, rather than what is known as a Nick, which is a type of momentary or temporary correction. This method of correction is used in order to correct known commands that the dog is intentionally choosing to disregard. This method of correction does not require inflicting any kind of physical harm to the dog in order to get the point across, however.

With fall coming, it is soon to be open season for many different animals for hunting. Seasoned and new amateur hunters will be out in force and will be scouring designated areas for live game in the hopes of a good kill that they will be able to bring home and show off as a trophy or provide as a meal to their families. Hunting has been a long standing tradition in many countries and is looked upon as an honorable skill and a much needed service, provided the game is not in any way endangered and actually needs population control.
There are many different types of hunting an individual can choose, ranging in game from elk, deer, to smaller game like turkey or duck, and many others. In addition, hunting these games comes with hunters who have their personal preference in the weapons they use, which range from shotguns to bows. Many hunters prefer hunting through scopes at a distance, while others believe it is more respectful to the animal and a sign of a seasoned hunter if they are up close by using a bow. Regardless of which weapon a hunter chooses, he or she will use it to hunt his or her chosen game.
Every weapon used is considered a lethal weapon and the hunter must not only register the firearm, he or she must purchase a hunting license and prove that he or she has gone through a legal firearm safety course in order to qualify for the license. Some individuals find this frustrating due to the expense of the course, but some states offer them free of charge in order to help protect the hunter and anyone in the vicinity who might be in danger if the proper safety precautions are not being followed by the hunter. In addition, every store or firearm dealer has the right and responsibility to refuse selling a gun to any individual whom he or she does not think is safe to have that weapon, and to then inform the police of the decision.
Firearm safety courses are important for individuals as it teaches them how to properly care for and handle their chosen weapon. Shotguns in particularly are very dangerous, and are typically able to kill an individual in one hit depending on the range. During hunting season, there may be innocent people out in the area where hunters are hunting, and may not be wearing bright orange to protect his or herself. Firearm safety courses are very important as it teaches the hunter to hesitate and to be certain of his or her kill before firing.
When a hunter purchases a weapon, he should carefully select one based on his/her needs while being certain the weapon is properly fitted. An ill-fitting shotgun can damage a person’s hand or even dislocate his or her shoulder. If you are uncertain over which weapon is right for you, it is best to consult an experience hunter or gun shop owner.
