February 21st, 2010 — Gun Safety, Guns, Hunting
Hunting is a fun and enjoyable sport, but it is also considered to be one of the most dangerous. It is absolutely imperative that you take safety precautions to make sure that you and those around you are kept safe during this exciting endeavor. Your life and the lives of your companions absolutely must be protected when doing hunting of any kind. There are safety precautions to take regarding hunting equipment, safety courses, gun safety and seasonal hunting safety. When planning a hunting trip, consider the following hunting and gun safety tips.
- Having the right weapon and the right hunting supplies is the first consideration that you have to make when it comes to preparing for your hunting trip.
If you are planning to hunt deer, for example, then you need to have a gun or a bow that is intended for hunting dear. A standard pistol, for example, is not adequate for deer hunting, but a rifle or a crossbow certainly would be. If you want to be safe and get the most out of your hunting experience, having the right equipment is absolutely imperative.
- When you are hunting using a gun, there are a number of things that you really need to keep in mind.
The safety on the weapon should always be on, unless you are actually preparing to fire the gun. The gun should also always be pointed away from you and from other people, and you should never point the gun down at your feet. You should never point your gun at anything that you do not intend to shoot at. These are precautions that should be taken regardless of whether the safety is on or not. The safety on your gun is capable of failing, and it is much safer for the gun to misfire when not being pointed at anyone.
- You must make sure that you are taking proper care of your weapon.
Properly cared for weapons do not normally misfire, meaning they are much safer to work with. If you do not take care of your gun, it can misfire, the barrel could jam, or something even worse could possibly happen.
- Before you go out on a hunting trip, you should make sure that you find and participate in a hunting safety course in your local area.
These safety courses are designed to go over proper gun handling and proper gun safety. These hunting safety courses will also remind you of the basics of gun care and the precautions that you should take in order to be safe during your hunting trip.
- In some areas, you also need to consider seasonal hunting safety beyond traditional hunting safety.
Many hunters are out there in force during hunting seasons, so you need to make sure that you are prepared for this. You should be wearing bright and easily seen clothing, for example, so that hunters can identify you as a person rather than as a potential target. You should also always make sure that you have permission from the owners of the land to hunt on that property, so you can make sure that the area is safe and not being inhabited by children, individuals or animals that might be mistaken for targets.

Camping, fishing and hunting are popular outdoor sports. What makes someone want to do any of those instead of just taking a hike through the woods and going home, or taking a stroll through a field to do some bird watching? Many people prefer the sense of them against nature; living in the wild and fishing and hunting like we used to have to do to survive. Sleeping under the stars and cooking what you caught or killed for dinner is almost a primal need for some people, even though we have comfy beds to sleep in and grocery stores where we can buy meat.
Hunting might be more technological today than ever with laser scopes and precision weapons, thermal underwear and heat packs, but people still want to hunt because of that primal urge that has never seemed to go away-man against nature, struggling to survive. If you want to hunt, but you’re undecided about exactly how to go about it or what you’d like to hunt, here are some basics to help you decide.
Can you tolerate cold weather? A great deal of hunting is done during the winter season. Even more passive methods of catching game like trapping are often done when the temperatures dip. If you’re deer hunting or trapping, for instance, you might need to be out before dawn in extremely cold weather. Are you well-suited for this or do you think you would be miserable doing this as a hobby? At the very least, consider the cost of the equipment you’ll need. You have to have protective clothing and you must dress in layers, with one of them preferably wool. Warm boots that will keep your feet from getting wet, proper headgear and excellent gloves will all be necessary.
Can you climb a tree and sit perched in one for hours? Deer hunting will involve you setting up a deer stand in a tree–often not the easiest of tasks, especially if you’ve never done it before. Do you have someone to help you set up the stand originally? Do you like the idea of climbing up into the stand in the dark and sitting there for a prolonged period of time? If that doesn’t appeal, you might choose to hunt something other than deer.
Do you want to go after big game? Some people enjoy the challenge of squirrel hunting. Squirrels are small, they move quickly and it can be difficult to bag one or the several required for a good meal. But some people dream of taking down the giants like bear, moose and elk. First, consider that just because you want to hunt bear or other large game doesn’t mean you’ll be allowed to. Often areas where you can hunt have draws and only those who draw the tags are allowed to even try. And consider the cost. Often its necessary to travel, and you might need a large gauge (and more expensive) gun as well as other specialized equipment.

February 16th, 2010 — Game, Gun Safety, Hunting, autumn
Hunting, by nature, is a dangerous and risky sport because it involves firearms, and shooting those firearms. Hunting accidents occur all year long in different parts of the world, which only proves the importance of safe hunting guidelines and why you should uphold them. Deer hunting safety is a truly essential part of the sport at its very core. No matter how long you have been hunting deer, and no matter how much experience you have under your belt, it is still absolutely vital that you practice good deer hunting safety guidelines all the time. Not only are you protecting yourself by practicing good safety when going out deer hunting, but you are also protecting those in your group, and the other people out hunting that may not be aware of your presence.
The best time to go deer hunting, although it is a year long hunting experience, is during the fall in the beautiful autumn atmosphere when everything seems perfect. Unfortunately, this perfect season for hunting absolutely does not rule out the chance that something could go wrong. For this reason, practicing the guidelines for safe hunting during this season is absolutely vital. Keep the following guidelines in mind and everyone around you, including yourself, will be safe.
1 – Make sure that any firearm you are working with is treated as if it is ready to fire and loaded. Keep the safety on at all times, with no exception, and do not take the safety off unless you are actually about to fire. By treating every firearm as a loaded weapon, you will take better care not to accidentally fire.
2 – Make sure that you are always in complete control of your weapon, as you are the only one responsible for your weapon when you are out in the woods hunting for deer. You should only ever aim your gun at something that you are intending to shoot, which means you should never aim your gun at people, windows, homes or other things that you can cause harm to if your gun accidentally discharges.
3 – Make sure that when you are hunting, you only are targeting an area where no one is in close range. Make sure you are the only one aiming for that game, otherwise you may find yourself harming another hunter close by. You should also absolutely never put your finger on the trigger until you are actually ready to pull it!
4 – Always make sure to wear a blaze orange outer layer, or a neon bright outer layer. This way, other hunters in your vicinity will be able to distinguish you from the wildlife, since deer have not yet figured out how to wear bright orange.
5 – In order to make sure that you are never targeted as game while in the woods, make sure that you are always equipped with a flashlight, especially at night when your colors are harder to see in the thickness of the woods.
6 – You could possibly be a danger to your own self as well as others if you do not remain alert while you are hunting. Proper deer hunting safety absolutely depends on your ability to observe and react. If you are impaired in any way because you are sleepy, then bow out and do not participate!

A deer hunting game can be a fun way to pass some time for avid hunters and outdoor enthusiasts. While nothing can take the place of getting out into the woods and really hunting, the online community has come up with some suitable diversions for hunters who are looking for something to do. Online sites have developed some interesting choices for hunters who don’t want to spend a fortune on their diversion game. Some of them are even free to use making them the perfect choice for the hunter who would rather spend his money on his equipment than a computer game.
One of the popular free deer hunting game choices that is available will give you points based on the size of the bucks that you take down. The herd is driven into the sights of the hunter and the game begins. It’s a fun and free way to pass some time playing a game that focuses on your favorite hobby.
There are some other deer hunting game choices that will allow you to change your landscape and even the species of animal that you are hunting. Deer hunters will, of course, get to hunt their favorite deer, but there are some other choices in the game that might add to the excitement. A deer hunter can see what it is like to hunt big game in Africa with this type of online game.
ESPN has even gotten into the deer hunting game market and introduced a game that is a favorite among avid deer hunters. Their game allows you to change your weapon, the season and the deer stand that you are using. It’s a fun way to bring the season back for a little while in the comfort of your own home.
Check out a few of the deer hunting game options that are available if you are becoming impatient for deer season. It’s a fun way to pass some time until you can get out in the woods and do some real hunting. You won’t have to spend a great deal of money, or any at all in most cases, to have a little deer hunting fun.
After the season is over, settle in for some video fun with your favorite sport. For most people the season ends much too quickly and these hunting games give you a chance to take part in the sport without leaving your own home. There is nothing like getting out in the open air to hunt, but when you just can’t or when the season is long over, a deer hunting game is a fun substitute.
There are also a number of games on the market that you can buy for your computer that will cost you a bit more than the online versions. If you find that you enjoy the deer hunting game that you find online, you might just want to invest in a fuller version that gives you more realistic graphics and choices. It might just make the off season go by a little faster.

One of the smartest tips that you can take with you when going deer hunting is that you should absolutely know where a deer is hit once you’ve shot it before you begin to track it. If you’re wrong about where the deer was hit, you may be in for a not so nice surprise when you stalk after a deer that isn’t injured in the way that you thought it was. What you can do for this is to note the body language of the deer when it is hit in order to help you determine where the deer was hit.
The ultimate hit when it comes to any animal is the hit that puts the animal down right away, as this way you do not have to make any estimations of where the deer was hurt or whether you should track it now or once it’s had some time to calm down. If the deer that you shoot does not drop and die within sight, then you are going to need to make a guess about where the deer was shot so that you can determine what to do next. A deer that is poorly hit can easily run for miles if you push it too hard while tracking it, and you may lose it if you are not careful.
A deer that is shot in the gut will typically arch its back, trotting with stiff legs. In this case, the deer will not last long, but you may need to shoot him a second time because gut shots are not often immediately fatal.
A deer that is hit in the legs will often kick out as if it were a mule. While a deer like this will not be able to run as far or as fast, a deer bent on recovering can give you quite a chase if you are not careful. It might be best to drop back and give him some time to slow or stop before you pursue him.
A deer that is shot in the lung will not always kick out its leg, but it will probably flag up or try to run away before it dies. They do not usually travel very far at all because a lung shot deer is one that will die quickly, so this is a deer that you should not be afraid to pursue immediately.
When a hit deer runs without any bucking or jumping, it will likely run in whatever direction was being faced when you shot it, even if that means running in a counterintuitive direction such as up hill. While this is not always the case, it is a rule of thumb that you can rely on in many situations.
The ideal way to land a deer is to shoot it in the heart, but the heart is small and it is a relatively low target to hit. If you do hit a deer in the heart, it will drop relatively quickly, so tracking is not typically necessary.
