Must-Have Hunting Supplies

huntingSince prehistoric times, hunting has been a true game of survival between our species and the world of animals. Gradually as civilization has become more civilized, and through advancements in technology, we have fine tuned this art of hunting into a true skill that not everyone can possess.

Those who do possess the skill of hunting can hunt to relax or to find food. Having the right hunting supplies can really make or break your experience in the woods since it will determine whether or not you have the tools and resources that you need to make the kill. Let us start with the basics in terms of must have hunting supplies and go from there. Regardless of whether you are a novice hunter or a professional one, every hunter should absolutely have the following hunting supplies:

1 – You should have a back pack or day pack that will make it easier for you to store and to transport all of your hunting gear along the way.

2 – You need to have a rifle with a bare minimum number of 10 cartridges, or more if you need.

3 – A compass, as this extremely useful tool will help to allow you to get a good sense of where you are going at all times.

4 – Maps of the areas where the hunting is going to take place so that you know where you are in relation to where everything else is.

5 – A sturdy pair of binoculars, standard style without any bells and whistles is definitely going to come in handy.

6 – A cotton bag for storing your game in as you go through the hunting process,

7 – A large knife that you can use to cut and skin the game as you go, so that you only carry what you need and nothing more,

8 – A small knife such as a Swiss Army knife, which is a must have essential item,

9 – Strong nylon string to tie up and hang meat as you go for easier storage and safekeeping,

10 – A saw can be carried if you want to remove any ribs, horns, antlers or legs as you go, but this is not always necessary.

11 – Bring along garbage bags for anything you don’t want so that it can be stored properly in garbage bins rather than left out there in the wild.

A skilled hunter is also going to need to consider some other things. For example, you are going to need to consider permits and licenses when it comes to hunting since different seasons allow for different game hunting and some hunting is not allowed in certain places. If you plan on hunting for anything longer than a day, you should plan the proper camping gear to make sure that you have everything you need at your disposal. Make sure that all of your needs are addressed when planning your hunting trip.

Choosing Hunting Optics

huntingopticsSelecting hunting optics is going to be a really big priority if you are a hunter or a rifle shooter. Having good optics is going to give you a serious advantage when it comes to general accuracy as well as long distance shooting accuracy. Some of the optics that you are going to need to select will be scopes and binoculars as well as other optics equipment needed for hunting. Keep in mind that hunting optics equipment can be expensive, meaning that you need to make sure that you are buying the best products and that you are doing so at the best possible prices as well. Your favorite hunting and shooting magazines will play an important role in this process because they can provide a significant amount of assistance. In this day and age, it is common to buy optics online at sites like eBay and elsewhere where you can get a really good bargain for a nice piece of equipment.

When it comes to hunting optics, there are a number of big name brands including ATN, Bushnell, Leupold, Nikon, Swarovski and Zeiss. All of these brands are capable of providing the top quality in optics, and choosing any of them is not going to steer you wrong. The real key to success in choosing hunting optics is going to be to choose the right optics that will fit your rifle as well as your own personal needs and your personal shooting style as well.

What sort of hunting optics are you looking for? There are actually a number of different options for optics that you are going to want to consider, including but not limited to scope mounts and rifle scopes, vision scopes and spotting scopes, range finders, laser scopes, monoculars and binoculars just to name a few. Monoculars, for example, are capable of being used either on a tripod or singly in the way that binoculars can. They are only a single eye piece, however, rather than a dual eye piece in the way that binoculars are. They are especially ideal for hunting optics because they let you use a single eye to look through while the other eye is looking around normally. You can also buy monoculars with night vision capabilities built in.

Another popular hunting optic for you to consider is range fingers, which are more high tech in comparison to other types of hunting optics because they are literally capable of calculating the distance between you and your target with the use of a laser. You can also buy binoculars that are intended specifically for hunting use. If you hunt in weather that is unpredictable, then you may want to choose hunting optics that are water proof and weather proof in order to make sure that they last in the elements. Ultimately it is up to you to choose the right hunting optics that you need, so make sure that you choose the optics that will best suit you and your personal hunting and shooting style.

Buying Hunting Gear Online

huntinggearThanks to the internet, now you can successfully buy just about anything including the types of hunting gear and outdoor equipment that you could ever possibly need, and you never need to leave your home in order for you to make this happen. The internet has quickly come an outstanding place for you to find some of the best hunting gear prices available, though you may initially be hesitant to spend money on hunting gear over the internet if you have not actually seen the desired items in person. With only a couple of simple steps, however, you can make purchases for the most sought after hunting equipment online and you can be confident in the decision that you have made as well.

The first step that you should be taking in this process is to hop onto the internet and begin to do some research. Let us say for example that you are looking for a brand new set of binoculars. You go to a search engine of your choosing such as Google.com and punch in an appropriate keyword, such as “binocular reviews” for example. Find a website that is reputable for your reviews, or if you are not sure about the reputation for a specific review site then what you can do is go to numerous different review sites to sort of average out what everyone is saying about the products that you are attempting to buy. If you read multiple different reviews on the product of your choice, you will get the best possible idea about what you are looking for. Once you know what product you should go for, you can better narrow down your search until you have one that you are adequately satisfied with.

Buying the right hunting gear can mean spending a pretty penny, and if you are going to be spending a lot of money on the right gear, then it is vitally important that you do choose the right gear, especially when it comes to online shopping when making returns is a little more difficult. You should know exactly what you are getting if you shop online. If you can, visit a local store to test the product out, to get a feel for its quality, its weight and other characteristics, and then try to find it online to see if you can get a better deal on the product of your choosing.

This is because finding the best pricing for the product you are looking for is important. You should be searching on websites like Froogle in order to see what different people are asking for the products that you seek in order to make sure that you get the best possible price. The more you shop around, the better the results will be, so make sure to use due diligence in searching for the best products at the best prices and you will surely enjoy your next hunting outing.

Eight Tips for Deer Hunting Success

huntingdeerWhen it comes to hunting deer, it is vitally important for you to pay attention to the smallest details. Here are a few unique tips that many hunters miss when it comes to bagging their dream trophy out in the woods.

1 – Use a Painted Stand - Paint both the bottom and the top of the stand. Your platform should also be camouflaged on the underside as well.

2 – Use Binoculars - Make sure that you are investing in a good, solid pair of binoculars, and make sure that you are using them often. This is going to be especially important when you are dealing with low light situations such as at dusk and at dawn.

3 – Waterproof Your Gear – This is especially important when it comes to your rifle, which is the most important asset that you have when you are hunting. Your rifle needs to be protected, meaning that you should absolutely waterproof it. Keep some oil on hand so that you can wipe your rifle down when rain is expected. Motor oil is good enough to do the trick in most circumstances.

4 – Practice Often – if you want to be successful when you are out hunting then you should hit the range a few times before you go hunting in order to take practice shots before you go hunting. Make sure that you are using the right gun and the right ammunition in order to get the full effect of your practice.

5 – Tread the Trails - Look at the trails where you’ll be hunting, tying some black sewing thread at various trail intervals approximately 3 feet off the ground. Check back often to see if the strands are broken. This will tell you if any animals have been by, and if so, which direction they are moving in so that you can keep track of deer before your hunt.

6 – Watch Squirrels - Squirrels, just like deer, tend to prefer the trees that have a plentiful number of accords. If you find such a patch of trees, where there are a number of squirrels present, then the likelihood is in your favor that there are also deer nearby.

7 – Keep Muscles Loose - It is important that you keep your muscles loose since sitting in your stand for too long, especially when it is cold, can really stiffen your muscles up. Make sure that you are getting up often and that you are moving your legs and your arms for limber muscles and good circulation.

8 – Tint your Lenses – You should be wearing shooting glasses that have tinted lenses in yellow. Not only are they going to protect your eyes quite well, but they are also going to allow you to see with greater ease during lower light situations.
