One of the considerations that you are going to want to make when choosing a scope for your rifle is the magnification range of the scope. A scope that is in the 3 to 9 magnification range for a gun intended for whitetail deer is definitely pretty standard. In the western states when it comes to antelope or mule deer, you may want to go for a 4 to 12 range or a 4.5 to 14 range, and these are not too much. This is especially true when your average spot as so many times as long as it would generally be when hunting in the eastern woods for whitetail.

On the plains or when you are hunting in the open country, you can go with a scope that offers higher power. You will often be able to see all the way around you, with very little chance of something sneaking up an surprising you. Some animals do have occasion to sneak up anyway, however. You may have to shoot from one hilltop to another or from one mountain to another in some cases as well.

When you are shooting prairie dogs or shooting over a long distance for target shooting, you may find that you do not get much power out of a 6 to 20X or an 8 to 25X variable scope. You should be keeping in mind that on hotter days, heat waves and mirage can render a high power scope nearly impossible to use.

Some people do prefer to use fixed power scopes, primarily because of their simplicity and the fact that they have fewer necessary moving parts. On certain rifles, people are happy using nothing more than simply a fixed 4X scope. Squirrel rifles as well as many 22 files tend to be well equipped using this level of magnification. There are also some target shooters that utilize fixed power scopes with a high level of magnification such as 24 power, 36 power or 40 power.

The most common magnified scope for a handgun is a 2X scope. The higher the level of magnification that you have, the harder it is going to be for you to find your target and sight picture, and the closer and more critical your eye relief is going to become. When you shoot a handgun using a scope, you will find that the process requires a great deal of practice, especially when you are dealing with anything that is above 2X. Stronger or more powerful variable scopes are typically only best for experienced shooters and they are used near exclusively from a resting position.

Muzzle loaders and shotgun scopes often have lower powered scopes to handle hunting of deer on the short range with slugs as well as for hunting for turkey. A 2X fixed scope is typically standard here, but there is also a trend for variable power scopes in the 2 to 7 range and the 3 to 9 range as well.

Hunters and sportsmen alike that would like to save money should look into reloading their own shotgun shells. Not only can shell loading be a hobby within a hobby, it will also give the hunter or sportsman a chance to make their own custom shells to match whatever game or target they prefer to shoot.

The difficulty of this exercise is moderately challenging, and can be expensive at first, but will save you money over time, sooner if you shoot a lot. You will need empty hulls, a reloader (the most expensive piece of equipment, and also the most important), primer, powder, wad, and shot. We will now go step by step through the process of reloading your own shells.

1 – Remove any spent primer from the casing, and resize the shells brass at the bottom. Be sure to pull the handle of the reloader all the way down, else you ma produce a defective shot shell.

2 – Place your new primer in the second station with the shot shell on top of it. Pull the handle down. Be sure the primer is level and even with the brass, and is not sticking out.

3 – Put the shell into station three and pull the handle. Now move the top bar to the left of the machine with your other hand. Let the handle up, and put the wad in the guide. Pull the handle again. This will place the wad at the bottom of the shell. While the wad is still depressed, move the bar to the right.

4 – Move to station 4, and pull he handle to make the starter crimp. Before you finalize the crimp, look into the shell and be sure the shot is on top of the wad. If things do not look right, stock and cut open the shell so you can figure out what you missed.

5 – If all was okay in the previous step, place the shell into station 5, and pull the handle to complete the crimp. Congratulations, you have just made your first shotgun shell.

Warnings and Tips

A good reloader for novices to start with would be the MEC Jr. 600, which is a single stage reloader. This means each step is completed with a single lever pull. An experienced shell reloader can fill a 25 shell box in as short as 7 minutes, and 10 minutes at the most. Components of the shells, the lead or steel shot, the wads and powder, and the primer can be ordered off the internet, or at the local sporting goods retailer.

Once fired hulls can be had for as little a three cents for each hull, or if you have the time, for free off the ground at local trap and skeet shooting ranges. Be sure to follow manufacturer instructions. Alterations to a recipe can lead to shells exploding in the barrel, causing grievous injury, or even death.

… This article is a continuation from part 1.

Now what you are going to want to do is to go to the dealer that you have chosen and let them know that you are interested in transferring the purchase of a firearm from a website online. The dealer is going to charge you a nominal fee in order to assist you in the transaction.

Now you should print and fill out the Federal Firearms License transfer form, and you should make sure that it is faxed to the firearm shop by you or by the dealer that you are working with. Make sure that the transfer form is signed by the dealer before you send it out. Make sure that the order number as well as the license number for the dealer is both included before you send or fax the document in so that all of the paperwork is done properly the first time.

You should receive, in return, a tracking number for the firearm. This happens once the signed Federal Firearms License paperwork has arrived from the dealer that you are working with, and once the shop owner has filled out the proper FFL transfer form in response. Once all this has happened, the firearm will be shipped to your dealer. In the process, the necessary background check for the purchase of a firearm will be completed by the dealer that you are working with. After all of the paperwork has been filled out, filed and faxed properly, your dealer is going to let you know when you can come to pick up your ordered firearm.

If you want to avoid all of the inconveniences that come with buying hunting guns over the internet, then what you can do is find a gun store in your local area that will sell you a hunting gun over the counter. There are plenty of dealers all over the United States that are licensed specifically for the sale of guns and accessories relating to guns. Some of these retailers and dealers include:

Middleboro Gun Shop in Middleboro, Massachusetts, is a licensed gun store that can sell you the gun you’re after.

Nagel’s Gun Shop in San Antonio, Texas, is another completely and properly licensed gun store that can help you find the gun you are looking for.

Cabela’s World Foremost Outfitter, located all over the United States, is a commercial sporting goods and outdoor store that can help you buy the gun you are looking for.

Academy Outdoor and Sports, located all over the United States, is another option for purchasing the gun that you are looking for as well as the ammunition and other supplies that you need.

Black powder guns and guns with muzzle loaders are quite different in comparison to the hunting guns that we are making use out of today. Today’s guns make use of bullets as well as cartridges instead. The old school black powder guns are loaded up with a type of black powder that is comprised of powdered sulfur, carbon, potassium nitrate, water and denatured alcohol. These black powder hunting guns are typically used when you need to achieve an accurate shot over a long distance, and they are quite popular for hunting, even among modern day hunters despite better, more advanced technologies being made available.

History is going to tell you that this type of gun was invented by the Chinese as they were working on explosives experiments to create something that could be used during their ceremonies as well as rituals. There are a number of different factors capable of affecting the mechanisms behind these guns, including the choke, the ignition system, the shot charge, the propellant, and configuration and over powder ward.

There are a number of professional hunting shops that will be able to give you assistance in selecting the right hunting guns for your purposes. These shops are available not only in person in brick and mortar fashion, but also online as well. Seldom are you going to run across suppliers that stock both black powder and firearms as a result of federal law. Real black powder is classified as being an explosive according to the United States government, and so retailers as well as dealers are required to get a special permit before they are allowed to stock this special concoction.

Although your typical black powder gun is not a fixed ammunition firing gun, these guns are not restricted by any law by the federal government. However, it is important for you to know that some states do place restrictions on selling these guns directly, including but not limited to Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan and New York. For this reason, it might be a good idea for you to find a dealer that can behave as a middleman for the transaction purpose.

Here is what you might want to consider doing when it comes to getting your hunting gun on the internet: First and foremost, you are going to want to fill out the necessary forms for the purchase of a firearm. You are going to want to find a firearms dealer or store that has a current FFL, which is the Federal Firearms License and is required by law for selling guns. Upon the receipt of your order confirmation on the internet, you should include the contact information for the dealer in the comment box or e-mail it directly to the gun shop owner.

When you are choosing the right hunting rifle, there are actually a ton of different calibers that you can choose from. If you are a relatively inexperienced huntsman, then you may be feeling overwhelmed at the sheer number of different available weapons.

When it comes to talking about gun calibers, the simplest way for you to understand the concept is as follows: The higher that the caliber is, the greater that the stopping power will be. Unfortunately, the higher that the caliber is, the harder it will be for you to control. What this means is that you will need a higher caliber weapon in order to deal with larger animals, but a higher caliber weapon is also going to deliver significantly more kick as well.

You are going to also want to remember that the hole that you produce in the target is also going to be larger when you are dealing with higher calibers. This is why choosing the right type of rifle is vital based on what type of game you are intending to go after. Let us say for example that you are interested in hunting something small, like a small deer, fox, hare, rabbit or wildfowl. If this is the case, then a .22 caliber gun is generally a good way for you to go. Typically the bullets or loads for these types of weapons are capable of being varied so that more range and more penetration can be produced as needed. For wildfowl, a standard bullet or load may be suitable, but for a fox you may want to switch to something that is somewhat heavier.

If on the other hand you are hunting larger deer, then you are going to want to choose a rifle with a higher caliber, such as a .303, .308 or a .270 for example. Rifles that fit in with these calibers are going to be significantly more success at taking down larger creatures like dear. The load sizes, once again, are capable of being obtained in various sizes meaning that there are always weapons and ammo choices that are more suitable for specific types of game over others.

Something that you are going to want to consider when you are swapping loads is that you may have the recalibrate the sight for your weapon if you change from one load into another type of load. Different loads are going to produce different types of trajectory paths, and you are likely going to find that your accuracy will be lost if you do not do this reset.

If you are on a budget, then it may not seem pleasant to waste between five and ten rounds on resetting your scope, so if this is the case you should stick to a single load size, hunting accordingly. It is not uncommon for hunters to keep several different types of rifle calibers on hand but if you are just getting started, choosing a single weapon to suit your needs is generally a good idea.

Are you thinking about going out hunting with a pellet gun? There are a few important guidelines that you are going to need to follow if you want to make sure that you are being both humane and effective out there. Some of the things that you need to consider include choosing the proper gun, the proper scope and the proper ammo, and you must also make sure to use the correct practices when you go pellet gun hunting. The first consideration that you are going to want to make is what type of game you should be hunting and should not be hunting. Here is a quick guide to pellet gun hunting using an air gun.

First and foremost, you should understand that you should only be seeking out small game when you are going pellet gun hunting. Even the more powerful air guns are not capable of imparting enough destructive force that clean kills can be guaranteed when you are hunting larger prey. You should be sticking to creatures like field mice, rats and squirrels, and should never try to kill anything larger than an average sized raccoon when you go hunting using a pellet gun. Having the proper caliber of gun and ammunition is vitally important when it comes to hunting with a pellet gun.

In general, when it comes to hunting small game using a pellet gun the most preferable type of guns and ammo is a .22 caliber. A common misconception among hunters is that smaller calibers such as .20 and .177 produce a higher pellet velocity and as a result are better for hunting, but this is not necessarily true. The internal damage force is more important than the penetration force, meaning that you want ammo that is going to disperse more force after the impact than before, meaning that a heavier and thicker gauge like the .22 caliber is the right way to go when it comes to pellet gun hunting for small game. The smaller calibers are capable of risking passing through the animal without actually causing enough damage to kill it, which is inhumane.

If your game is going to be up in a tree or further out than 15 yards away, then using a scope is a smart idea for your pellet gun. Most pellet rifles come with scope mounts that you can fit a wide variety of different scopes onto. Once you know what the tendencies are for your particular gun, you can find a scope that will help you hit the game exactly where you intend for the pellet to strike.

Pellet gun hunting is capable of being really fun and enjoyable, and it is a great way for younger shooters to learn how to hunt successfully. As long as you are careful about the considerations mentioned above, you can find this method of hunting to be truly rewarding in many different ways.

Here are some important considerations to make when it comes to hunting safety:

First and foremost, you should always assume that every gun that you come in contact with is loaded.

Second, you are always going to want to control the muzzle. The way that you can achieve this is by pointing your gun in a direction that is safe.

Now, you are going to want to keep your finger completely away from the trigger until the point where you are ready to actually fire the gun.

You are always going to want to be sure of your intended target and everything that is around your target.

Wearing hunter orange makes you a lot safer than wearing any other color. You will not stand out to the deer that you are hunting as they cannot perceive the color the way that we do. However, the bright orange color can be spotted from far away and you will never be mistaken for a target.

Deer are lacking the red-sensitive cone cells that are required in their eyes for them to determine the differences between red and orange and green and brown. Having this type of blindness mean that deer will not be able to pick you out in the trees, but other hunters certainly will be able to. Using fluorescent types of colors like hunter orange is going to look brighter to a human with a gun, while deer will have difficulty seeing the colors and will mistake you for the foliage in the woods. This means that you are safe when you wear hunter orange, and yet it will have no negative impact on your ability to go hunting successfully.

Simply put, wearing the hunter orange color is capable of saving lives. Fluorescent orange varieties of safety clothing are quite effectiveness. Big game hunters that wear hunter orange can go hunting without having to worry about being mistakenly shot by a hunter that is also out in the woods enjoying the deer season. So if you are serious about going hunting and you want to be safe and protected without hampering your ability to sneak up on a good target, wearing hunter orange is a great way to go.

In the past, wearing camouflage colors was the way to enjoy a good day of hunting because the deer could not see you in the brush. Unfortunately, hunters cannot see you either, and they will sooner perceive you to be a deer or other animal than a person when you are running around in the colors of the trees. This is why wearing hunter orange is so vitally important – It may even save your life someday.

Gun safety is absolutely critical when it comes to handling firearms and hunting. It is important that you learn how you can practice safety with your gun in order to prevent any injuries not only to you, but also to those that are around you as well.

It is vitally important that you practice gun safety while you are hunting. You should have protective gear, for example, even glasses or goggles and a pair of earplugs to make sure that you are protected.

The first step is to learn exactly how it is that your firearm operates. When you know how you should be correctly operating your weapon, then that is when you can truly prevent any injuries from occurring. When you become familiarized with the gun’s basic components, you will be safer when you are hunting. Learn basic gun safety and also you should be practicing how to load ammunition into the gun properly and safely.

Now you are going to want to keep your rifle, gun and any other weapons that you are using pointed away from yourself and any other person while you are hunting. There is no telling when a gun can go off – You don’t want to be pointing your gun at someone when it accidently misfires!

You should only ever make use of the right type of ammunition when you are hunting with your firearm. You should never simply experiment with different types of ammunition if they were not specifically designed to suit your firearm. If you use incorrect ammunition, you could end up misfiring and seriously hurting yourself or someone else.

You should absolutely never put your finger on the trigger of your gun unless you are actually ready to take a shot. You should make it a habit to rest your finger on the guard of the gun or the gun’s side rather than on the trigger for this very reason.

You are going to want to make sure that you know exactly what you are shooting at during any point in time. You should make sure that you are observing anything and everything around you. If there are people close by to your target, then no, it is not safe for you to shoot.

Make sure that you are wearing protection both for your eyes and your ears. You should always have a set of shooting goggles or a pair of glasses on hand when you are hunting so that debris does not enter into your eyes. You should wear earplugs when you are actually shooting so that your hearing does not sustain any damage.

Finally, you are going to want to avoid taking any medications or refrain from drinking any alcoholic beverages that can impair your judgment or cause drowsiness. These can cause problems with your judgment, which is the first step to experiencing or causing an injury while hunting.

Hunting is a fun and enjoyable sport, but it is also considered to be one of the most dangerous. It is absolutely imperative that you take safety precautions to make sure that you and those around you are kept safe during this exciting endeavor. Your life and the lives of your companions absolutely must be protected when doing hunting of any kind. There are safety precautions to take regarding hunting equipment, safety courses, gun safety and seasonal hunting safety. When planning a hunting trip, consider the following hunting and gun safety tips.

- Having the right weapon and the right hunting supplies is the first consideration that you have to make when it comes to preparing for your hunting trip.

If you are planning to hunt deer, for example, then you need to have a gun or a bow that is intended for hunting dear. A standard pistol, for example, is not adequate for deer hunting, but a rifle or a crossbow certainly would be. If you want to be safe and get the most out of your hunting experience, having the right equipment is absolutely imperative.

- When you are hunting using a gun, there are a number of things that you really need to keep in mind.

The safety on the weapon should always be on, unless you are actually preparing to fire the gun. The gun should also always be pointed away from you and from other people, and you should never point the gun down at your feet. You should never point your gun at anything that you do not intend to shoot at. These are precautions that should be taken regardless of whether the safety is on or not. The safety on your gun is capable of failing, and it is much safer for the gun to misfire when not being pointed at anyone.

- You must make sure that you are taking proper care of your weapon.

Properly cared for weapons do not normally misfire, meaning they are much safer to work with. If you do not take care of your gun, it can misfire, the barrel could jam, or something even worse could possibly happen.

- Before you go out on a hunting trip, you should make sure that you find and participate in a hunting safety course in your local area.

These safety courses are designed to go over proper gun handling and proper gun safety. These hunting safety courses will also remind you of the basics of gun care and the precautions that you should take in order to be safe during your hunting trip.

- In some areas, you also need to consider seasonal hunting safety beyond traditional hunting safety.

Many hunters are out there in force during hunting seasons, so you need to make sure that you are prepared for this. You should be wearing bright and easily seen clothing, for example, so that hunters can identify you as a person rather than as a potential target. You should also always make sure that you have permission from the owners of the land to hunt on that property, so you can make sure that the area is safe and not being inhabited by children, individuals or animals that might be mistaken for targets.

Most people think that scopes gather light, but the truth is that they transmit available light instead. Most people think that scopes gather light because the term “light gathering ability” is thrown around a lot. Instead, scopes transmit the light that is available through the lens and to your eye, but they always lose a little bit of light in this process. The best that a scope can ever hope to offer when it comes to light transmission is a theoretical 98% meaning that 2% of light is always lost. This is only generally achieved by the absolute finest in scopes, which means the most expensive scopes on the market in most cases. Anything that is above around 95% is considered to be really great. Most scopes on the other hand are going to be closer to around 90%, give or take just a little bit.

Generally, the more magnification that you have, the less light you are going to get for your eyepiece. The larger that your objective lens is, the more you are going to get through the eyepiece.

Aged eyes can dilate only to about 4 mm. Younger eyes may be able to open up to as much as 7 mm or more.

There will be a small circle of light appearing in the eye piece when you hold the scope at arms length, and this is known as the exit pupil. The circle of light that you see in the ocular lens is this exit pupil, and the diameter of this in millimeters is what is known as the pupil size. When you use the scope during a poor lighting condition, you should imagine how small and how dark the exit pupil is going to be when you are choosing a rifle scope. How well are you going to be able to see your target through that tiny little circle of light? Is the amount of light enough to let you take advantage of the scope?

There is a formula to consider for the exit pupil calculation, which is as follows: You should take the objective lens size, convert it into millimeters and divide it by the score magnification. This is the way to figure out how much available light you are going to have, and the difference may be really significant.

The larger that your exit pupil is, the less critical that the position will be for your head in relation to where the scope is. The distance that your eye needs to be to the ocular lens in order to get a clear and full picture is known as eye relief. Scopes with less power will have a larger distance range to obtain a full view, while higher power scopes are typically much more critical when it comes to the centering of the eye through the tube’s middle as well as the required distance from the scope’s ocular lens.
