The Popularity of the Deer Hunting Game Online

A deer hunting game can be a fun way to pass some time for avid hunters and outdoor enthusiasts. While nothing can take the place of getting out into the woods and really hunting, the online community has come up with some suitable diversions for hunters who are looking for something to do. Online sites have developed some interesting choices for hunters who don’t want to spend a fortune on their diversion game. Some of them are even free to use making them the perfect choice for the hunter who would rather spend his money on his equipment than a computer game.

One of the popular free deer hunting game choices that is available will give you points based on the size of the bucks that you take down. The herd is driven into the sights of the hunter and the game begins. It’s a fun and free way to pass some time playing a game that focuses on your favorite hobby.

There are some other deer hunting game choices that will allow you to change your landscape and even the species of animal that you are hunting. Deer hunters will, of course, get to hunt their favorite deer, but there are some other choices in the game that might add to the excitement. A deer hunter can see what it is like to hunt big game in Africa with this type of online game.

ESPN has even gotten into the deer hunting game market and introduced a game that is a favorite among avid deer hunters. Their game allows you to change your weapon, the season and the deer stand that you are using. It’s a fun way to bring the season back for a little while in the comfort of your own home.

Check out a few of the deer hunting game options that are available if you are becoming impatient for deer season. It’s a fun way to pass some time until you can get out in the woods and do some real hunting. You won’t have to spend a great deal of money, or any at all in most cases, to have a little deer hunting fun.

After the season is over, settle in for some video fun with your favorite sport. For most people the season ends much too quickly and these hunting games give you a chance to take part in the sport without leaving your own home. There is nothing like getting out in the open air to hunt, but when you just can’t or when the season is long over, a deer hunting game is a fun substitute.

There are also a number of games on the market that you can buy for your computer that will cost you a bit more than the online versions. If you find that you enjoy the deer hunting game that you find online, you might just want to invest in a fuller version that gives you more realistic graphics and choices. It might just make the off season go by a little faster.

The Best Hunting Scent Strategy

sportwashAll people have a scent about them, and hunters are no exception to the rule. If the wind is in the favor of the deer, then they are going to smell us, quite literally, from as far as half a mile away. This is why the most successful hunters of buck take such great pains in order to try to eliminate as much of their human odor as is possible, masking whatever they miss to ensure that the deer cannot detect them or smell them coming.

The archery deer season can be a bit warm and humid, and this is a bad time of year considering the weather is so miserable for hunting in general. The hot and humid nature of the climate is a true enemy to deer hunters that are looking to control their scents while on the hunt.

The best scent control is going to begin at home. We already all know the importance that comes with showering with the use of soap and shampoo with no scent. Something else that you need to consider is your clothing. Regardless of whether or not your clothing is charcoal lined, you are going to want to wash all of your hunting clothing using a detergent that has no perfumes or scents in it, and then you are going to want to separate this clothing from any other household odors by making sure that your hunting gear and garb are stored in a plastic bag or plastic tub that has no scent to it.

The best choice for buying scent free laundry detergent is sport wash, which you can buy from Atsko.com or in the hunting section of Wal-Mart.

One of the most important parts of preparing for your hunt actually occurs in the washing machine. Your wife can wash your regular clothing in anything that she likes, but when it comes to your hunting clothes, only Sport wash should be used. Sport wash generally causes less than the commercial detergents, and it will work just as well to remove built up residues and other crud from your clothes. You may even want to convince your wife to use sport wash for all the laundry, if you feel so inclined.

Another thing that you can do to control your scent is to take a dietary supplement known as Nullo, which is designed to serve as a deodorant, however internally instead. It has been around for a number of decades already, and sells primarily to people that have problems with excessive body odor. You can use Nullo to neutralize the gases and bacterial cultures that your body produces, but it takes a few days or as long as two weeks in order to completely neutralize your body odors.

Eight Tips for Deer Hunting Success

huntingdeerWhen it comes to hunting deer, it is vitally important for you to pay attention to the smallest details. Here are a few unique tips that many hunters miss when it comes to bagging their dream trophy out in the woods.

1 – Use a Painted Stand - Paint both the bottom and the top of the stand. Your platform should also be camouflaged on the underside as well.

2 – Use Binoculars - Make sure that you are investing in a good, solid pair of binoculars, and make sure that you are using them often. This is going to be especially important when you are dealing with low light situations such as at dusk and at dawn.

3 – Waterproof Your Gear – This is especially important when it comes to your rifle, which is the most important asset that you have when you are hunting. Your rifle needs to be protected, meaning that you should absolutely waterproof it. Keep some oil on hand so that you can wipe your rifle down when rain is expected. Motor oil is good enough to do the trick in most circumstances.

4 – Practice Often – if you want to be successful when you are out hunting then you should hit the range a few times before you go hunting in order to take practice shots before you go hunting. Make sure that you are using the right gun and the right ammunition in order to get the full effect of your practice.

5 – Tread the Trails - Look at the trails where you’ll be hunting, tying some black sewing thread at various trail intervals approximately 3 feet off the ground. Check back often to see if the strands are broken. This will tell you if any animals have been by, and if so, which direction they are moving in so that you can keep track of deer before your hunt.

6 – Watch Squirrels - Squirrels, just like deer, tend to prefer the trees that have a plentiful number of accords. If you find such a patch of trees, where there are a number of squirrels present, then the likelihood is in your favor that there are also deer nearby.

7 – Keep Muscles Loose - It is important that you keep your muscles loose since sitting in your stand for too long, especially when it is cold, can really stiffen your muscles up. Make sure that you are getting up often and that you are moving your legs and your arms for limber muscles and good circulation.

8 – Tint your Lenses – You should be wearing shooting glasses that have tinted lenses in yellow. Not only are they going to protect your eyes quite well, but they are also going to allow you to see with greater ease during lower light situations.

Locating the Deer

deerA lot of hunters that are unsuccessful are in such a position because they set up anywhere they can in the woods and simply hope that a deer is going to go by. Other people may set up near a rub, simply hoping that a monster buck is going to stroll right up to their stand while they are hunting. This may be fine and good for some hunters, like some gun hunters for example, because they can touch a deer as far as 300 yards. But if you are a bowhunter, then you are going to need to be within 20 yards or 30 yards, and you are going to need to shoot at just the right moment, and so these techniques simply are not going to be successful and therefore you need to find another tactic in order to find your deer.

The best thing that you can do is to take steps that will increase your odds in a proven way. What this means is walking into the woods with a fairly accurate educated guess about where today’s deer are going to be. The first question that is asked is where are the deer going to be bedded? The time for you to find this out is during the spring and the summer when travel patterns aren’t going to be changed. You should get into the roughest, thickest and ugliest cover that you can find such as swamps and sticker bushes, where it seems impossible to get, and that is where you are going to find the beds you are looking for. When you get there, you should have no trouble finding these bedding areas, as they will be all mashed down and looking rather cozy.

Now that you are familiar with the bedding areas for the herd that you intend to hunt, remember that there are going to be multiple bending areas on your hunting grounds, then you can mark them using a topo map or a satellite picture to keep track of where you’re going. Continue marking your map up with old rubs, current trails, disused trails and possible food sources for your targets. All of these things are going to be clues when it comes to determining what is currently going on with the herd that you are targeting. If the hunting season has already begun for the year, then you may want to take it easy when it comes to the hunt for bedding areas and just assume that the thickest cover that you can find is going to be a good resource for deer.

Once you have marked all the sign areas, you can take a hard look at your map and determine which direction the deep appear to be moving into during the evening hours. Are they looping back to the same bedding areas, or choosing a different area from the morning for the evening. Once you have figured out the patterns of the deer, you are very close to understanding the best possible place for you to set up.

Boar Hunting Dogs

bigboarIf you ask someone that specializes in boar hunting what the best dog breed is for the job, you are going to get a differing opinion than when you ask the next boar hunter that you come across. There are a number of different characteristics that need to be combined in order to create a good dog for hunting wild pigs. Some of the more popular dog breeds for this purpose include the feist, the cur, the pit bull and the American bull dog. Regardless of which breed you end up choosing, the right dog for the job is going to be one that has plenty of stamina because your dog will need it when tracking wild boar.

Boars were first introduced to this country back when settlers brought about domesticated pigs, allowing for them to run loose. Because pigs have such a high intelligence, they were capable of adapting, breeding and thriving in the area. It was not long before their numbers had begun to increase rapidly. Dogs had to be introduced in order to keep the population of wild boar under control. The wild boars were aggressive toward any people that they ended up encountering and they were also ruining vegetation in the area and were killing smaller animals in the wild as well.

Before you decide to set out on a hunt for wild boar there are some things that you are going to need to know. For example, one of the primary things for you to know when hunting wild boar is that the worst possible time for you to go hunting is in December, as this is when the litters are born. During this period of time, the sows, the female boars, become fiercely overprotective because there are young nearby. Not only could your dog potentially be hurt, but you could possibly be hurt as well. The sow will create a small depression in the ground, lining it with branches and grass for her offspring. The bar will take cover in dense grasses while hunting and you may not notice the breeding ground until it’s too late.

One wild boar hunting dog that has developed an excellent reputation is the cur. These dogs are loyal and versatile, and they have the ability to run over long distances and over long periods of time as well. Many hunters also end up relying on the American bulldog for this type of hunt, though there are a couple of different variations of this particular breed that you need to consider. The Johnson line, for example, is a popular line of dogs that involves a Mastiff and an English Bull dog being bred. Another good line is the Scott line which was bred specifically to deal with big game just like the wild boar for example.

How to Make Deer Hunting Videos

If you’ve ever thought of making your own deer hunting videos but wondered who would want to watch them, you should consider the enjoyment you’ll get from making them. You may be surprised at who would enjoy watching your videos. But even if no one did, you would have the videos to reflect back on and help you relive an exciting hunt.

One way to really capture the memory of a specific deer hunt, a trophy hunt or just a special day outdoors is with a video. You also never know where it may lead you. The late Steve Irwin, famous for running Australia Zoo and being The Crocodile Hunter on television, started out carrying a little hand-held camera when he went for outdoor adventures with his dog. But had he never become famous for it, he enjoyed making the videos and watching them as did his family. Your deer hunting videos will be a chronicle of where you’ve been and where you hope to get with your hunting so you should choose the proper equipment and enjoy the process.

You can take your videos and upload them to YouTube or other video hosting services to share them with other people interested in deer hunting. Doing such a thing can certainly attract many people to you and widen your circle of friends with an interest in hunting and outdoor sportsmanship. You’ll also learn things about hunting as you make the videos and surprise yourself by improving in certain areas because of them. Not to mention how you’ll get the chance to help other people learn things about hunting as people find your video and model themselves after you and your success.

Before you start making deer hunting videos, be sure that you are confident enough in your ability to display it in front of other people. If you’ve never hunted before, your first videos are going to be more for you, most likely. Unless you’re creating a video series to show people the process of learning to hunt and improving each time. If this is the case, be sure and discuss on the video how you chose things like your clothing, your weapon and your location as well as any other equipment that you use. Make it as interesting as possible and it’s sure to be popular among those with a hunting interest online.

Your deer hunting videos can be popular online if they’re clear enough for people to watch. So you need to get the right equipment to be sure that people aren’t annoyed by a fuzzy picture or bad sound. Get the best equipment you can find that can stand up to outdoor elements. A digital recorder is ideal for this type of filming. You can even get a video camera that advertises itself as YouTube compatible. That type of video equipment will let you download your deer hunting videos onto your computer and edit them in any video editing software before uploading them to YouTube or other video sharing sites.

Maximize Your Chance of a Hunting Trophy

Everyone who hunts would like a hunting trophy at some point. It’s the same principle that makes everyone who bowls want that big bowling trophy or every runner want that first-place medal. Some people are more prone to winning hunting trophies and seem to have a wall full of them. If you want your own hunting trophy then study your sport and keep some things in mind when you’re ready to go deer hunting.

The best time for trophy hunting is during the rut season. Deer are completely preoccupied with mating at this time. They act differently than they do at other times of the year. Their natural instinct to propagate
takes over during the rut.

Male deer, or the bucks, will mark their territory and claim dominance over an area by scraping the ground. They make these marks and other males see them and realized that a dominant male is in the area and prepared to claim the females. The deer will also rub their noses on trees near the scraping to mark the territory further, but you’ll only be able to notice the scrape marks.

Where deer scrapings are found is a good place to find deer and bag one for a hunting trophy. Other deer come along and smell the deer sent, and rub their own in the same area as well as urinate in the area to mark it as theirs. Trees may be scraped up from where the bucks rubbed their antlers against the bark. Their antlers are covered in something called velvet during this time of year and they’ll scrape it off on trees to leave their sent. Because they’re so preoccupied with mating and marking their territory it’s naturally easier to get a deer during this time.

And because the dominant deer are usually the ones with impressive racks they use to challenge other males with during the mating season, it’s a good time to get a 10 or 12 point buck and get a hunting trophy. Does will also come in the area where you can find scrapings because they’ll urinate there to signify that they are ready to breed.

One thing you need to be careful of during the mating season is that the deer may be more aggressive than at any other time. If you should be spotted or a dominant male should feel threatened by you, you could get charged. It’s still not likely even during the rut but that’s the most likely time of year for it to happen. During the mating season you may be able to get away with less worry about your scent, as well. When you deer hunt, you want to go without wearing cologne or aftershave, using unscented soap and unscented detergent on your clothes. If you get a little sweaty or have a slight scent during the rut, the deer are less likely to pick up on it because they’re so preoccupied with their own scents and marking their own territory.

Differences Between a Spring and Fall Turkey Hunt

If you’ve ever been on a spring turkey hunt or you’ve ever wanted to, you should consider turkey hunting in the fall, too. Most people think of spring but it’s a fall activity as well. There are some differences between a spring and the fall turkey hunt that the hunter should be aware of to be able to enjoy himself as much as possible.

First of all, the turkeys are different in the fall than in the spring. Spring time is mating season for the turkeys and they’re going to have a very different behavior. There going to be more restless and more animated because they’re trying to attract and find a mate. In the fall, turkeys have passed the mating season and are more interested in feeding and socializing.

So while in the spring you look for turkeys where they mate, in the fall you want to look for them where they eat. Where they nest is also a place to look in the fall not because they’re mating but because they’re going to be sleeping more with the change of the season.

In the fall, there’s a turkey hunting technique known as flock busting. A hunter finds a flock of turkeys and rushes toward them to break them up or sends a hunting dog toward them. This scatters the flock so that a turkey call like a young turkeys “kee kee” call can be used to attract them back. As the turkeys come back you’ve got a prime hunting situation.

Finding where the turkeys eat in the fall is really the key to a good autumn turkey hunt. To find this space simply look for turkey droppings and tracks. Very often these areas are close to water sources.

The time of day you plan your fall turkey hunt makes a difference, too. Before the sun goes down in the late afternoon turkeys will typically be apart but working toward gathering together. By the time the sun comes up, they should be flocked together. It’s a good time for flock busting if you choose to turkey hunt in the morning. Hunting in the evening means the flocks going to be broken up a bit and you’re going to be finding smaller flocks or individual turkeys.

One way to make your fall turkey hunt successful is to learn a few different turkey calls. The “kee kee” of the young turkey is a good option after flock busting because that’s the call that would be answered by a turkey’s mother. But other calls could also work like the gobbler call or hen call, depending on the turkeys you see when you rush the flock.

A fall turkey hunt might not be quite as easy as a spring hunt because they are not mating and not quite as reckless as when they are looking for a mate and driven by instinct to mate. But if you scout out their food and water sources and find where they rest, you’ll have a good turkey hunt.

Caribou Hunting

For experienced hunters or new hunters alike, caribou hunting is an adventure. Those who are experienced hunting other game animals like deer or elk will find a lot familiar about caribou hunting and yet it will be unlike anything they’ve done. People new to hunting will find caribou hunting an exciting sport.

Caribou hunting is less talked about than things like deer hunting, elk hunting or even moose hunting. But caribou meat is delicious, and their hide is valuable as well. The horns of the caribou can also be sold so there are many practical reasons for hunting caribou. The sheer size of the creatures and their stealth and cunning make them a challenge as well.

For the new caribou hunter, a guide is essential. Whether you’re going to go with a paid guide or just a friend or acquaintance who’s a very experienced caribou hunter, the tips and tricks you’ll learn are invaluable. If you don’t have any close friends or acquaintances who caribou hunt, then investing in a guided hunt is probably one of the best things you can do to make sure that you will enjoy caribou hunting for years to come.

Outfitters will set you up with a guide and take you to the prime hunting spots. They can’t guarantee that you’ll find a caribou or get a shot at one but the odds of this are maximized when you go on a guided hunt with a very experienced guide. They can also help you avoid some of the pitfalls of caribou hunting such as not understanding all the laws surrounding it and complying with them.

Some areas have strict limits on caribou hunting while others are more relaxed. But you’ll need to follow local gun laws and any requirements as far as how you dress the caribou in the field as well as the weapons you use to hunt the animals. The last thing you want to do is have a successful caribou hunt and end up with a hefty fine because you used improper ammunition or you improperly butchered the animal. An experienced guide can lead you through that maze of technicalities.

You’ll also get one-on-one instruction in how to find caribou tracks and figure out where they’re most likely to be found. Through droppings, tracks, and scrapes and rubbings on the sides of trees, guides can pretty much show you the paths that the caribou take each day. Depending on where you hunt, you may be limited to using either a rifle or a compound bow. Areas that allow both typically have a very distinct season for rifle hunters and a distinct season for those who use a bow.

A guide can tell you the best type of ammunition to use as well as the best weight and point weight of arrows, depending on what you choose. This is an important choice because it will determine how quickly and mercifully you kill the animal. A guide or mentor can also teach you how to properly field dress the animal after a successful day of caribou hunting.

How to Choose a Deer Hunting Ranch

A deer hunting ranch gives hunters an opportunity to gather together and really enjoy hunting on a whole new level. People who deer hunt individually obviously enjoy the entire experience or they wouldn’t go. For some people it’s simply a solitary way to spend time. But a deer hunting ranch allows for a camaraderie and companionship among hunters that no other place can quite match up to.

For some people, going to a deer hunting ranch is the high point of their year. They look forward to gathering with other hunters and talking about the day’s adventures. It’s not just a place for new deer hunters to go and learn the sport. Many people enjoy going for years even if they’re so experienced they don’t need a guide or anyone to help them.

The most important thing about enjoying a hunting ranch is choosing the right one. Some of these places can all almost be considered hunter spas. Full-service ranches take care of everything for hunters like making sure the permits are correct and that the equipment is in good working order. Meals and all the amenities are included in one price, and in many cases even guided hunts are included in the price. Frequent ranch goers often skip the guided hunts and just go to gather where they’re among friends.

Decide whether or not you’re going for the guided hunts to learn about deer hunting or you’re just going for the group dynamic of it all. That will help you determine which hunting ranch might be best for you. Beyond that, you’ll want to make sure that the ranch you choose has a good history of safety. Your local wildlife Department or the state’s department should have such a record because they’re the ones who licensed the ranch.

Be sure the hunting ranch you’re looking into offers everything you want. You may want a full-service ranch with guides, horses and amenities like those you’d find at any hotel. Other people prefer a more “roughing it” kind of experience where the ranch is little more than a base camp to leave for hunts and gather after they’re over. Many people who prefer this type of experience forgo ranches altogether and instead meet up in what’s known as “deer camp.” People come and stay in trailers and tents and enjoy the camaraderie and atmosphere without all the frills.

You may also be able to find a hunting ranch designed for married couples. Very often the man, or sometimes the woman, will go for the hunting and the ranch will have other activities available for the spouse who doesn’t hunt. At the very least, it may have activities nearby for other people to enjoy while the hunters are out enjoying themselves.

When you’re looking for a hunting ranch, shop around and compare prices and remember that price alone may not be an indicator of quality. A high price doesn’t guarantee a great experience any more than a low price guarantees you’re getting a value. Look online at hunting sites and look for other people’s experiences at the ranch to get a really good feel of how much you’re likely to enjoy your experience there.
